A lithophane works on the principle of variable light transmission. When you upload an image, our engine analyzes the Luminance (Brightness) of every single pixel.
- Dark Pixels = Thick Plastic (Blocks Light)
- Bright Pixels = Thin Plastic (Lets Light Through)
We map these values to physical thickness (usually between 0.8mm and 3.0mm). When you place a light source inside the printed sphere, the varying thickness modulates the light passing through, recreating your photo in high-resolution grayscale.

To get the results shown in previews, you must follow these specific slicing rules:
Material
Use White PLA. Other colors block too much light or tint the image unnaturally. "Cool White" is usually best.
Infill: 100%
This is the most important setting. Set Infill to 100% (or 9999 walls). Any hollow air gaps inside the shell will ruin the image.
Layer Height
0.12mm is the sweet spot for detail vs. print time. 0.2mm works but will look slightly grainier.
Orientation
Print exactly as generated (vertical cylinder base on the build plate). Do not use supports for the image area.
